AIR QUALITY
The air we breathe deserves attention
Even an apparently clean environment may contain invisible dust or contaminants. Ventilation, filters, ducts, humidity and daily activities all affect the quality of the indoor air we breathe.
Dust and substances
Particles and residues build up in the systems and reduce the quality of the air distributed to the rooms.
Microorganisms
Under favourable conditions, humidity and dirt contribute to the presence of microorganisms, mould and bacteria.
The risk is assessed case by case.
A technical inspection helps distinguish a suspicion from an actual, confirmed problem.
Italian regulations require an air quality check every six months, by means of sampling and bacteriological analysis.

HEALTHY AIR PROGRAM
HAP: a process, not a single treatment
Healthy Air Program is SICOM’s programme dedicated to the prevention and remediation of contamination. It combines an initial analysis, appropriate interventions and follow-up checks.
1 · Understand
We start by observing the environment and the systems, identifying possible sources of contamination through a video inspection.
2 · Verify
Cleaning, remediation or sanitisation are defined according to the critical issues actually detected by the bacteriological analysis.
3 · Intervene
Activities are documented and, where required, sanitisation and statutory checks are carried out.
The programme is adapted to the building’s characteristics and the client’s needs.

AIR CHECK
Measure first. Then decide.
Air Check is the inspection process that helps you understand the condition of an environment or system before choosing how to intervene.
What we look at
Condition of ducts, critical points, presence of deposits and parameters to be assessed with appropriate instruments or analyses.
Why it is useful
A documented diagnosis makes the choice of interventions clearer and helps schedule follow-up checks.
Not every situation requires the same treatment: the initial assessment avoids standard interventions applied without reason, resulting in cost savings.

AIR HANDLING SYSTEMS
Ducts carry air. Their cleanliness matters too.
Ducts are the channels through which air reaches the rooms.
Over time they accumulate dust and deposits that require inspection and, when necessary, cleaning.
How we intervene
Access points are identified, the areas involved are protected and cleaning is carried out with techniques compatible with the system.
Final check
Visual inspection and documentation describe the work carried out, with final analysis reports issued by an ACCREDIA-accredited body when required by the control plan.

AHUs, split units and fan coils: what they are and why they should be checked
AHUs treat and distribute air; split units and fan coils help condition the rooms. Filters, coils and condensate trays need proper maintenance.

Every surface needs the right treatment
Cleaning, disinfection and sanitisation are not synonyms. First we assess the material and the type of dirt or contamination; then we choose the appropriate method.
Cleaning
It removes dirt and residues from surfaces and is often the first step.
Further treatments
When necessary, procedures and products compatible with the environment and the instructions for use are applied.
The treatment aims to meet the applicable regulatory parameters, not to eliminate every microorganism and all particulate matter.
Where sterile environments are required, a dedicated operational design will be developed.

Visual inspection alone is not enough.
Sampling and laboratory tests provide reliable evidence for assessing hygiene and sanitary conditions.

Test report
Results must be read in context: they show what was measured, with the method and limits stated.

PROFESSIONAL HOODS
A clean hood helps the kitchen work better and reduces the risk of fire.
Hoods extract cooking vapours and aerosols. With use, filters, fans and ducts can accumulate grease and residues, increasing the fire load.
The problem
Grease deposits can obstruct extraction and contribute to a higher fire risk and greater system inefficiency.
The service
SICOM’s technical brochure describes inspection, removal and washing of filters, cleaning of hoods and ducts, fan checks and final verification.
Cleaning must cover all relevant parts of the entire extraction system, not just the visible part of the hood.

Sanitising rooms: choosing the right method
Treating a room takes more than a product: you need to understand which surfaces must be cleaned, which contaminants are present and which materials can be treated without damage.

Steam can be useful on compatible surfaces, when provided for by the procedure and after assessing temperatures and materials.

DUCT COATING
When internal duct linings deteriorate
Some older ductwork has internal insulating linings that can degrade over time. Before intervening, it is important to check the condition of the material and assess the technical options.
Inspection
The internal condition of the ducts and any deteriorated parts are examined.
Tailor-made solution
Coating, i.e. the application of a protective lining, can only be considered when technically appropriate.
Final check
The treated areas are checked and the results documented according to the agreed plan.
When technically suitable, a protective coating can help remedy a damaged system that would otherwise require replacement of the system or its parts, with the resulting downtime.
